As you enter the front door, look to your right for a glimpse of one of the few open pit BBQ's left in Central Texas. To your left, please take note of our menu board. Family style meals are served on the long picnic tables and feature pork ribs, brisket, sausage, potato salad, cole slaw, beans, pickles, onions, and bread. Tea, coffee, and soft drinks are available, but bring your own alcoholic beverages, because Hays County is dry. Top off your dinner with our homemade blackberry or peach cobbler, or pecan pie, topped with ice cream if you like.

Gentlemen's Quarterly magazine in "Scenes from the Good Life" beckoned readers to "enjoy the finest dining in Texas" here at The Salt Lick. Southern Living, "Deep in the heart of Texas", reported "This is where we would go if we could visit only one place."
