As you enter the front door, look to your right for a glimpse
of one of the few open pit BBQ's left in Central Texas. To your left,
please take note of our menu board. Family style meals are served on
the long picnic tables and feature pork ribs, brisket, sausage, potato
salad, cole slaw, beans, pickles, onions, and bread. Tea, coffee, and
soft drinks are available, but bring your own alcoholic beverages, because
Hays County is dry. Top off your dinner with our homemade blackberry
or peach cobbler, or pecan pie, topped with ice cream if you like.
Gentlemen's Quarterly magazine in "Scenes from the Good Life" beckoned
readers to "enjoy the finest dining in Texas" here at The Salt
Lick. Southern Living, "Deep in the heart of Texas", reported "This
is where we would go if we could visit only one place." People Magazine, "Searching
for Barbecue Bliss" recently observed that "the pork ribs served
throughout Texas were never less than wonderful" and "the best
to be had," the reviewer claimed, "are here at The Salt Lick." Other
experts insist that the brisket and sausage are tops. Whichever you choose,
you can't go wrong.
We are open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Sunday. Dine in or carry
out. Call in advance for large parties. We are also available for private
parties. We have indoor and outdoor facilities that will accommodate
up to 2,000 people. So think of us when planning weddings, reunions,
small conventions, holiday parties, or any special event. We can bring
our traveling smoker to your party or ship our BBQ directly to your kitchen.
